Fable 5 is back. But that doesn't mean you can use it.

00:00:01: Amazing.

00:00:02: It's a really great model but unfortunately the Fable five we're getting now... ...is not REALLY The Fable-Five We had a couple of weeks ago and NOT just because it has more safeguards But it does And that may be also problem BUT ALSO for many other reasons.

00:00:20: We'll dive in.

00:00:21: But yeah, fable five is back and throbbing posted that beginning tomorrow they start restoring access.

00:00:28: so it should happen every minute now I guess?

00:00:30: It's tomorrow here in Germany!

00:00:32: So let's go.

00:00:33: um...I want to use fable-five again but then also had another post with a bit more details most importantly the link for their blog with way more detail And we will dive deep into this because there's a lot of interesting stuff in here.

00:00:47: Now, first things... First you probably know what happened to Fable V. it is the most recent and capable model released by Unfropping.

00:00:55: It was banned by US government And something similar happens with GPT-Five point six Sol which is their most capable version of five point six Which also was restricted or banned for now by the US government.

00:01:15: They basically plan on getting to a point where they can roll it out, hopefully globally and that's an entirely different set of problems.

00:01:24: but right now Of course to some degree.

00:01:33: it's kind of a new benchmark already, right?

00:01:35: If your model doesn't get banned by the US government that means It's not good.

00:01:39: Right so you want to get banned right now But at the same time off course.

00:01:43: getting banned has the problem that you can't sell it.

00:01:46: and of course from my little German European perspective where we live in A region where we absolutely hate technology and do nothing about our future well We are totally dependent on these US or Chinese models.

00:02:02: and of course being in that world where I was able to use fable five, see that it really seems to be dramatically better at certain tasks.

00:02:12: And then losing access to it and learning that In the future axis may be restricted even more for non us citizens That is not great I think can really push the Chinese models in the end, because which models will i use otherwise?

00:02:31: But that would be an entire different episode.

00:02:33: There's a lot to say about it too!

00:02:35: It is just a little side note like kind of bad feeling with all things that happened related to Fable and GPT-Five point six.

00:02:43: but let us dig deeper into what exactly we are getting back.

00:02:53: But, in the official post on x there is already a first interesting sentence.

00:02:59: In the near term some routine tasks like coding and debugging will fall back to opus four point eight.

00:03:07: What?

00:03:08: I mean yeah i know you can use these AI models for more than coding but one of the main use cases especially with clawed code of course Is... Coding!

00:03:19: So Learning that for routine tasks like coding, it will fall back to opos.

00:03:28: I in the near term... ...I really wonder if i Will REALLY get access to fable five because The main thing I do with these models is coding right.

00:03:39: so They are very good at that!

00:03:46: if it falls back to opus four point eight, that means I don't have access to fable five.

00:03:50: Right?

00:03:50: So... That is a really weird way of phrasing that and i'm not sure what they mean.

00:03:56: And If They will differentiate between different complexities I don't know.

00:04:03: You could say of course, well for normal coding you'll fall back to four point eight and that would be bad because fable five was much better at it.

00:04:12: but for cyber security stuff or security hardening... ...you will not be able to use fable-five.

00:04:19: It won't fall into opus four point eighth.

00:04:21: there right?

00:04:25: Nope, nope.

00:04:26: They released an entire post and from that post it becomes pretty clear to me That all that cyber security security hardening stuff Is the part where their Guardrails will probably kick in because fable five has more restrictive guard rails or safeguards.

00:04:50: so they have this nice Graphic here where they show that for normal models essentially you have Normal safeguards, which means a lot of stuff is allowed and yeah only A small amount of Stuff is banned.

00:05:03: And For fable That Is more aggressive?

00:05:08: My understanding is that this will also include many after security related prompts or tasks.

00:05:16: because One of the reasons or THE main reason why fable five was banned earlier in tune, Of course Was that Amazon researchers as they write and their posts now had found a method of bypassing Fablefives safeguards from thing.

00:05:32: it so did identified A number of software vulnerabilities.

00:05:36: So In The past fablefive had safeguarts already.

00:05:39: They released It with pretty restrictive safeguart Already but amazon researchers found a way of circumventing them for Clearly vulnerability, software security related prompting.

00:05:51: So now they're re-releasing it with even stricter safeguards.

00:05:54: I don't see a world where you could use fable five for useful security work.

00:06:02: You may still be able to trick it To bypass these safeguarts But for normal work Where you don't jump through hoops?

00:06:10: I Don't know.

00:06:12: so combined with that post I really don't know what exactly i'll be able to use fable five four.

00:06:18: Also interesting in that post about redeploying fable-five they have this sentence where they write uh, that for global users... That's nice.

00:06:30: related to my earlier point on the cloud platform, cloud AI, cloud code, cloud co-work.

00:06:36: you will get access to Fable Five theoretically depending on what you're doing For pro max team and select enterprise plans, fable five will be included for up to fifty percent of weekly usage limits through July seven after which it'll available via usage credits.

00:06:55: This is also huge!

00:06:56: This easy to overlook but this is huge.

00:06:59: And I know when Fable Five was released earlier in June It ALSO WAS not unlimited usage and there was a deadline where it would uh, Not be included in your um cloud subscription usage anymore.

00:07:14: but It's super important to really reflect on this right now.

00:07:17: until July seventh you can use it for up to fifty percent of your available usage.

00:07:23: if you have a clod subscription, thereafter it's not part.

00:07:30: you can buy extra credit, so pay on top of your subscription and then build at standard API rates.

00:07:50: And in case you wonder... Standard API Rates for Fable V are pretty steep way more expensive than Opus-FourpointEight which already was not cheap!

00:08:06: It potentially falling back to a weaker model for the main work I do with those AI models, which is coding.

00:08:17: And for me personally With the additional little twist that i don't know if The US government will at some point decide That they Don't want global users To access this model or potential future models my excitement For it returning has kind of taken A hit to put it like this.

00:08:38: Because, you know I have created many videos about AI.

00:08:41: obviously i've shared my feelings about AI and they are still the same regarding that I enjoyed coding more without AI but... The truth is of course when I share that in many videos too AI IS HERE And of course I work with AI and, of course it's useful.

00:08:57: Of course you can get more done.

00:08:58: You could also produce more slop.

00:09:00: That is a different question But of course its' useful.

00:09:04: It will be an integral part being developer already.

00:09:12: If u then don't have access to those top models Or if they have such restrictive safeguards that are barely usable or not really Close to being as useful as they could be or if they are so freaking expensive that you Also can't really use them unless your a large enterprise then these AI models of course have the potential or danger of Building, or increasing A gap between The people who Have access and Who don't not just for coding Of course but For all kinds of tasks.

00:09:52: Access To These Models Already is and will be even more a competitive advantage.

00:09:59: And therefore this rollout of fable five.

00:10:02: It's good to have.

00:10:03: I'm happy to see that it's back But i'm also been worried about how things, would look like in the future?

00:10:16: when and if, who gets access to the new GPT-Five point six model?

00:10:21: And of course as I mentioned earlier for me it will also be interesting to see how these Chinese models evolve.

00:10:29: How quickly they catch up because them being open weight is kind of a guarantee that i can access them one way or another in future which don't have Yeah, but anyways that's just my two cents.

00:10:45: Fable five is coming back.

00:10:47: That's generally good news and we'll have to see how useful it then.
